Construction is Moving Above Ground

The past several weeks have brought a noticeable increase in activity at the 588 Lakewood project, with multiple trade partners working on site each day as construction continues to gain momentum. After months of site preparation and foundation work, the project has officially entered one of its most exciting phases—vertical construction.

One of the first major milestones was the completion of a temporary interior wall within the existing building. While not highly visible from the outside, this temporary barrier plays an important role in keeping staff and patients safely separated from construction activities. With the wall in place, demolition crews have begun removing sections of the existing exterior façade where the new addition will connect to the current building.

At the same time, crews have officially started construction of the new masonry stair tower for the addition. As the first significant structure to rise above the foundation, the stair tower marks a major visual milestone for the project. Work on the elevator tower will follow closely behind, continuing the building's upward progress and giving shape to the future addition.

Site improvements are also moving forward on the east side of the property. Crews have cleared the area designated for the new parking lot by removing trees and landscaping, and installation of the parking lot's underground stormwater structures is now underway. These systems will provide proper drainage and lay the groundwork for future paving operations.

Additional work is beginning near the existing east stairwell, where a temporary exterior door is being installed. This temporary access will allow construction to move forward on the new electrical room addition and generator enclosure while maintaining safe access to the existing facility throughout the project.

With several work areas progressing simultaneously, the project continues to build momentum each week. As more structural elements begin to rise and site improvements take shape, the vision for the new addition is becoming more visible every day. We look forward to sharing more milestones as construction continues.
