Preparing for the Next Big Phase of Construction

The project is reaching an exciting milestone as foundation work for the new addition enters its final stages this week. After months of site preparation, excavation, and concrete work, the focus is now shifting toward vertical construction — the point where the project will begin taking visible shape above ground.

Later this month, crews will begin the façade demolition of the existing exterior wall where the new addition will connect to the current facility. Before any demolition takes place, a temporary interior wall will be framed and installed within the building. This protective barrier is an important step in maintaining a safe environment for staff and patients while crews remove sections of the existing brick façade and window systems. Careful planning and coordination are being prioritized to ensure construction activities have minimal impact on day-to-day operations inside the facility.

Once the demolition work is complete, the project will move into one of its most anticipated phases. Masonry stair and elevator towers will begin rising from the foundation, followed closely by the installation of the building addition's structural steel framework. These elements will provide the first clear visual representation of the addition and mark a significant step forward in the overall construction schedule.

Beyond the building itself, preparations are also underway for work on the east side of the site. This next phase includes construction of a new staff parking lot, a dedicated electrical room, and a new generator with a protective enclosure. These infrastructure improvements will play a key role in supporting the expanded facility and enhancing long-term operations.

Overall, the project continues to progress smoothly and remains on track. With the building permit now secured, the team has been actively reengaging Corewell and project trade partners to coordinate upcoming work and maintain momentum. As construction transitions from foundations to structural components, the coming weeks will bring some of the most visible and exciting progress seen on site to date.
