Rising Steel and a Site in Motion

September brought steady progress to the Lakewood ICC project as structural steel erection on the west side of the new addition moves toward completion. Columns, beams, and decking continue to go up, giving the building its structure and steadily changing the look of the site. Steel is expected to wrap up in early October.

Once the steel is complete, the building's second floor slab will be poured. From there, attention will shift to enclosing the building. Metal stud framing, brick veneer, curtain wall windows, metal panels, and roofing will all follow, bringing the façade to life and giving us a clearer picture of what the finished addition will look like.

Activity is just as strong on the east side of the property. The new parking lot and dumpster enclosure are wrapping up, with turnover to Corewell anticipated at the end of this month. The new lot will add approximately 40 parking spaces and should help ease congestion in the main lot.

Crews have also relocated the existing generator and demolished the old generator enclosure to make way for the new electrical room and generator enclosure. Underground utilities are now being located to prepare for excavation of the new foundations, an important step in supporting the infrastructure needs of the expanded facility.

This month, we'd also like to highlight our structural steel contractor, FCC. The crew is extremely easy to work with and always arrives on site with a positive attitude. They work hard while maintaining excellent safety practices, and the quality of their work has been impressive. When a few issues came up with the anchor bolt base plates for the columns, Foreman Dom and his crew worked quickly to correct them and keep the building progress moving forward. We appreciate having FCC as part of the team!

With steel nearing completion and work advancing on both sides of the site, October should bring the start of the building envelope and continued progress on the east side improvements. We look forward to sharing more as the addition continues to take shape.
